(LOT 66)
1909 T204 Ramly Miller Huggins PSA 5 EX

For some inexplicable reason, the ornate and stylish 1909 T204 Ramly set does not include most of the incomparable turn of the century Hall of Famers, excluding such legends as Cobb, Wagner, Mathewson and Lajoie, just to mention a few. Fortunately, this extremely condition sensitive Turkish cigarette brand issue did include the popular Cooperstown Inductee Miller Huggins, presented here in a stellar PSA EX 5 holder. One of only 4 examples at this "tough to find" mid-grade tier, it has been bested by a mere 9 specimens. While Huggins was a formidable 2nd baseman for both Cincinnati and St. Louis, his Hall of Fame credentials were based on his managerial legacy with the iconic Yankee teams of the 1920's where he won 3 World Championships while managing the immortal Ruth and Gehrig. His classic Carl Horner portrait image depicts remarkable contrast and clarity, encompassed by a blemish free gold bordered oval. The gold borders have retained virtually all of their original hue, remarkably eluding the typical border/edge chipping that plagues a majority of T204 subjects. Accounting for the grade is an eye pleasing even corner wear, and the lack of any obtrusive surface flaws on either side and the extremely rare well-contrasted T204 image are the final superlatives for this "scarce for the grade" Huggins memento!
