Rare High-Grade 1888 A36 Goodwin & Co. Champions Album
One year after Goodwin & Co. issued the first significant baseball card set featuring more than 2,000 subjects, they produced the extremely popular and colorfully, eye-catching 1888 A36 Goodwin "Champions" Album. The striking lithography of this album that consists of 50 card subjects from all walks of sport appears undiminished by aging. Despite the 19th century production, colors and subjects jump off the page with texture that would seem straight from the printer. Expected aging appears in minor surface and edge wear on the front and back covers. The fully intact, light blue cloth binding shows no separation and minimal wear at top and bottom. A small water stain is visible at the top left front corner and insignificant wrinkles line the opening edge of the back cover with a lower left corner crease. The interior brilliant "card" subjects are flawless due to the protective, tissue separating page. Clear Mylar jacket protector shields the artful soft-cover. This superior example is a rare find to be sure with an overall EX-MT quality.
