"Rare for the Grade" 1953-'55 Mickey Mantle #111 Dormand Postcard – Bat on Shoulder/Green Back Variation (PSA NM/MT 8)
One of the more obscure 1950's issues is the Dormand Postcards issued from 1953 thru 1955 in small and large sizes. Popular Long Island, N.Y. photographer Louis Dormand was responsible for issuing these brilliant postcards that were utilized to fulfill fan requests for autographs and photos. Selected players were chosen from four different teams including the Yankees, Dodgers, White Sox and Athletics, with a majority of the subjects distributed in the standard 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" postcard size. It should come as little surprise that the most popular and valuable subject is Mickey "Charles" Mantle who was issued with both "Bat over Shoulder" and "Batting Stance" poses.

PSA's illustrious "Pop" Chart indicates that the "Bat on Shoulder" subject (121 graded examples) is twice as scarce as the "Batting" pose (236 graded examples), with this breathtaking PSA NM/MT 8 "Bat on Shoulder" 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" offering one of a mere two encapsulated copies at this exalted plateau and only a paltry 6 specimens have been graded higher! Indeed, locating a PSA 8 'Bat on Shoulder" Dormand Mantle postcard is synonymous to finding a "needle in a haystack", similar to the Commerce Comet's unparalleled power. The "Mick's" classic full body central image is nothing short of breathtaking as the young superstar gazes into the camera donning his classic pinstripes uniform, with an imposing Yankee Stadium backdrop adding to the remarkable luster of this world-class gem. Sparkling hues, crystal-clear clarity, razor sharp edging, four pinpoint corners and gleaming surfaces all substantiate the ultra-rare grade that like the incomparable Mantle, virtually surfaces once in a lifetime!
