(LOT 324)
c.1971-'73 Julius Erving PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Kenneth Silver Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"

Here is one you don't see very often! Presented here is an ultra-rare PSA Type 1 photo of the iconic basketball Hall of Famer Julius Erving during one of his first two professional seasons with the ABA's Virginia Squires. Erving's magnificent career spanned 16 seasons, 5 of which were spent in the ABA with the Squires and the New York Nets (1971-'76). Julius's miraculous career commenced in 1971 with the ABA's Virginia Squires and it didn't take long for the basketball community to take notice of this budding superstar. The 6'7" forward averaged 27.3 points and 15.7 rebounds per game in his rookie campaign, while revealing an artistic-like propensity for classic "dunks" that would later be reinforced by many other players including the iconic Michael Jordan.

Simply stated, Julius Erving was referred to as the first "Michael Jordan" with regard to his miraculous-like ability to leave the floor as if he was literally "walking on air!" He would end his sensational career with over 30,000 points to the tune of a 24.2 scoring average, while accumulating an amazing .506 shooting percentage. This classic offering turns back the clock to an era when Erving was just getting his feet wet with the Squires, gripping the multi-colored ABA basketball in an attempt to notch another "basket". The impeccable resolution and near-perfect contrast are virtually unimprovable and it appears as if Julius is about to jump off the photo. No glaring flaws are evident on the clean glossy surface, and the blank back includes the critical "KENNETH SILVER" credit stamp. A super obscure Erving offering, it conjures up memories of how this legendary basketball player began his outstanding professional career in the ABA, before joining the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers where he would play his final 11 seasons and win his only NBA championship in 1983!
