(LOT 304)
c.1950's Yogi Berra PSA Type 1 Encapsulated William Jacobellis Photo – Image Used for Berra's 1955 Topps Issue - Measures Approx. 4" x 5"

Arguably considered the greatest catcher of all-time (along with Johnny Bench), it would take virtually a full catalog to appropriately list all of Yogi Berra's sensational achievements. Highly noted for his clutch performances on baseball's grandest stages, Berra's World Series records include: 14 appearances, 10 championships, 75 games played in and 71 all-time hits. If that isn't enough, he won 3 MVP awards and played in a remarkable 15 all-star games. Along with the immortal Mickey Mantle, he was the main cog on a Yankee team that played in a majority of the Fall Classics from the late 1940's through the early 1960's. All of the above are a steadfast testament to Berra's all-time stature, justifying why a myriad of elite collectors' scramble to obtain his finest existing artifacts. One of those seldom surfacing memorabilia keepsakes is this extremely obscure c.1950's PSA Type 1 "Jacobellis" photo that was used as the batting image for his 1955 Topps subject! Revealing brilliant aesthetics, the classic batting pose exhibits crystal-clear clarity as Yogi completes his mighty swing. Measuring approximately 4" x 5", no obtrusive flaws are evident, the bold white text "Y-LB-11" is situated near the lower left corner, and the final exclamation point is the verso's critical "WILLIAM N. JACOBELLIS" credit stamp. It is no secret among advanced photo enthusiasts the prestige associated with any "Jacobellis" photo with some of his revered contact proofs previously selling for record prices including iconic images for Mantle, Mays and Namath. Jacobellis couldn't have selected a more appropriate pose than this classic Berra batting image that was ultimately chosen as the image to be placed on his highly touted 1955 Topps baseball card!
