(LOT 298)
c.1950's Jackie Robinson w/Family – PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Photo – Measures Approx. 6-3/4" x 8-3/4" - Includes PSA Type 1 LOA

Presented here is an original PSA Type I early 1950's photo of Jackie Robinson taking a picture of his family during what appears to be spring training. Focusing in with his period-style camera, Jackie is about to snap a photo of his wide Rachael holding Jackie Robinson Jr. (on Rachael's left side) and Sharon (their youngest boy David was born on May 14, 1952). Sad to say, Jackie Jr. would ultimately be killed in a car crash in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1971 at the tender age of 24, roughly one year before his father would succumb to a heart attack. No one would argue that one of our National Pastime's all-time iconic moments was when the immortal Jackie Robinson broke the Major League's color barrier in 1947, courtesy of the unbridled courage portrayed by both Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers legendary General Manager Branch Rickey. That monumental occurrence changed not only baseball, but all of professional sports for eternity.

It is with no surprise that Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson's collectibles continue to skyrocket every day, especially in lieu of the historic "42" box office smash that opened the floodgates to an already lucrative Jackie Robinson collectibles market. This classic 6-3/4" x 8-3/4" image portrays outstanding aesthetics, highlighted by its crystal-clear clarity, relatively clean surface and fine centering between four bright white borders. The verso includes a pencil notation reading: "Jackie Robinson photographing his family – 1951", and neither side reflects any obtrusive flaws. A super obscure heirloom taken during Jackie's peak playing days with the Brooklyn Dodgers, it serves as steadfast reminder of how this remarkable man defied seemingly insurmountable odds in becoming the inaugural African-American player in MLB history!
