(LOT 295)
c.1940's Stan Musial PSA Type 1 Encapsulated William Jacobellis Photo – Measures Approx. 8-1/8" x 10" (Incl. PSA Type I LOA)

In 1941, the St. Louis Cardinals called up their 20-year old star phenom Stan Musial, who in only 49 plate appearances, provided the baseball community a "glimpse" of things to come by posting an unfathomable .426 average. Indeed, "Stan the Man" was here to stay, and in the following 1942 campaign (his official full rookie season), he would bat a very formidable .315 as he was about to embark on one of the most spectacular careers in baseball history. Musial's list of incredible superlatives includes a .331 lifetime average, 3,630 hits, 475 home runs, nearly 2,000 RBI's, 7 batting titles, 3 MVP's and a staggering 24 All Star game appearances. Based on these esteemed statistical highlights, it is mind boggling as to why his name doesn't stand next to Ruth, Cobb, Williams, Aaron, Mays, Mantle, etc. Fortunately, his playing excellence hasn't eluded hobbyists who actively seek his prized collectibles such as this stellar c.1940's PSA Type 1 Jacobellis illustration. Measuring approximately 8-1/8" x 10", the extremely well-centered illustration depicts an awe-inspiring Musial pose as he stands atop the dugout steps leaning on his period-style lumber. Musial's classic Cardinals uniform is the final superlative of this timeless illustration that reveals outstanding contrast and clarity. The verso includes an extremely bold WILLIAM N. JACOBELLIS credit stamp with any Jacobellis image immediately arousing the attention of any sophisticated photo enthusiast, let alone one representing one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time players, the immortal Stan "The Man" Musial!
