(LOT 284)
1938 Jimmie Foxx & Earl Averill "Future All-Star Teammates" PSA Type I Encapsulated WIDE WORLD PHOTOS – Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

This magnificent 1938 image reveals two Cooperstown Inductees, 1st sacker Jimmie Foxx and centerfielder Earl Averill before a game played at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. The back caption indicates that both these legendary stars were recently names to the 1938 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, with Averill currently leading the American League in hitting via a stellar .384 average while the mighty Foxx paced the league with 21 round-trippers. Ironically, it would be Jimmie Foxx who would ultimately lead the A.L. in batting with an outstanding .349 average (Averill would finish the season at .330). While "XX's" 50 home runs would not be enough to lead the league (Greenberg would hit 58 dingers), Foxx would pace the league in an additional seven league leading batting categories including an incomparable 175 runs batted in and an incredible 1.166 OPS! Other than some standard edge/corner wear, the image emanates spectacular resolution and no glaring flaws, with the verso's significant caption and WIDE WORLD PHOTOS credit stamp the final exclamation points for this stupendous Foxx/Averill illustration!
