(LOT 253)
c.1910's Fred Clarke PSA Type I Encapsulated Paul Thompson Photo – Measures Approx. 5" x 6-1/2"

Presented here is an extremely rare Fred Clarke c.1910's Paul Thompson photo, with original type one images of the legendary Cooperstown Inductee few and far between. A fine hitter, Hall of Famer Fred Clarke batted a stellar .312 lifetime over a distinguished 21-year career with both the Louisville Colonels and Pittsburgh Pirates. Additionally, he managed both the Louisville and Pittsburgh clubs from 1897 – 1915, racking up over 1,600 wins and serving as the incomparable Honus Wagner's manager most of his career.

Clarke is one of the few Cooperstown inductees that could have been inducted as either a player or manager, and his representation on this ultra-scarce Thompson Type 1 offering presents itself as a superb opportunity to capture a seldom surfacing period image of the by-gone star. Measuring approximately 5" x 6-1/2", Clarke has just completed his mighty swing, with his monstrous-like period-style bat revealing a super thick barrel and handle. Other than a negligible upper right corner chip, no obtrusive flaws are evident and the verso includes the critical Paul Thompson credit stamp. Arguably the most imposing original Fred Clarke image extant, it turns back the clock to when this Pirates star performed at an uncanny level as both an on the field player and seemingly ingenious field general!
