(LOT 250)
c.1910's Tris Speaker PSA Type I Encapsulated Paul Thompson Photo - Measures Approx. 5" x 7"

Showing off his classic Boston Red Sox pinstripe uniform, this magnificent c.1910's Tris Speaker image was issued by the legendary photographer Paul Thompson. While a definitive date is not included, the flipside caption clearly mentions that Tris Speaker is one of the main reasons the Red Sox are in first place in the American League, and based on the multi-pinstriped cap, we believe this image was taken during the 1915 campaign that ultimately resulted in Boston claiming a world championship (1912 Red Sox caps were different). PSA Type 1 batting images of the "Gray Eagle" seldom surface for the taking, and along with the other Speaker c.1912 illustration presented in this auction, locating an original Speaker batting photo during his Boston playing days is a grand opportunity for any elite enthusiast. Measuring approximately 5" x 7", Speaker is donning his road pinstripe jersey and cap (after the start of the 1915 season, the Red Sox removed pinstripes from their home uniform, adding pinstripes to their road flannels and caps). The image remains in aesthetically pleasing condition, eluding any serious flaws and well centered between four bright white borders. The final "thumbs up" is the critical PAUL THOMPSON credit stamp and aforementioned caption on the verso, with this extremely rare offering proudly representing one of baseball's greatest centerfielders of all-time!
