(LOT 151)
1928 George Ruth Candy Card Complete PSA Graded 6 Card "Blank Back" Set – Outstanding 5.33 GPA!

To commemorate Babe Ruth's overwhelming baseball dominance, in 1928 the George Ruth Candy Company issued a 6-card set that included scenes from Ruth's popular movie "Babe Comes Home' as well as pictures of Ruth during his 1924 promotional West Coast tour. One of the more eclectic 1920's issues, some cards reflect a flipside redemption process whereby the six subjects could be exchanged for a signed Ruth baseball, with others simply revealing blank versos. Presented here just happens to be a complete PSA Graded 6-card set with all of the "blank-backed" subjects portraying mid-grade or higher technical assessments, tallying a super impressive 5.33 G.P.A. Each card and their respective grades are listed as follows, also including their respective PSA population data for their "blank-back" designation:

#1 (PSA 5) – "King of them all" – Only PSA Graded "Blank Back" Example

#2 (PSA 7) – "Knocked out 60 Home Runs in 1927" – "1 of 1"; Highest Graded Example

#3 (PSA 4) – "The only player who broke his own record" - Only PSA Graded "Blank Back" Example

#4 (PSA 6) – "The Popular Bambino eating his Home Run Candy" - "1 of 1"; Highest Graded Example

#5 (PSA 5) – "A favorite with the Kiddies" - "1 of 1"; Highest Graded Example

#6 (PSA 5) – "The King of Swats" - Only PSA Graded "Blank Back" Example

These sepia-toned gems seldom surface for the taking and were issued the year after the New York Yankees assembled arguably the greatest team in baseball history, led by their swashbuckling icon George Herman Ruth who swatted an unprecedented 60 home runs in 1927. The most popular card in the set just happens to be the #2 subject that portrays an imposing Ruth batting swing and dubbed "BABE RUTH – Knocked Out 60 Home Runs in 1927 – his Candy Helped Him". It is this card that coincidently sports the near-impossible "NM/7" assessment that stands as the highest PSA grade for ANY of the 6 subjects listed on the illustrious PSA "Pop" Chart.

All six cards reflect superb aesthetics and no glaring flaws, with the aforementioned #2 PSA 7 issue just happening to emanate the finest possible contrast and crystal-clear clarity. What could be more rewarding than capturing a complete Babe Ruth 6-card set issued at the height of his unparalleled career, with the mighty Yankees ironically completing the 1928 campaign with another Fall Classic four-game sweep over their overmatched National League foes (in this case the St. Louis Cardinals). There are only a handful of type card issues manufactured during the later 1920's that carry Babe Ruth's immortal pose, let alone a 6-card gathering of the unparalleled "Sultan of Swat" that virtually never surfaces for the taking in this complete set format!
