(LOT 657)
1913-'15 Pinkerton Honus Wagner Postcard – Blank Back (PSA Fair 1.5) – "1 of 1"; Only 1 Graded Higher!

The images depicted on the renowned T5 Pinkerton Cabinets were also utilized on postcards distributed from 1913 thru 1915. These postcards included both "blank" and "scorecard" versos, and while the "scorecard" backs are scarcer, either version is seldom seen in the memorabilia circuit. As with most pre-WWII issues, one of the most heralded cards in the Pinkerton Scorecard set is the immortal Hans Wagner and it is his extremely obscure Pinkerton "blank-back" scorecard that is offered here in an eye pleasing PSA Fair 1.5 holder. Currently, PSA has encapsulated a mere 4 blank back examples, with this sole "1 of 1" offering only bested by a single specimen!

Rarely is a "Fair 1.5" cardboard keepsake categorized as an elite level card, but this may be an understatement since its sheer existence qualifies it as one of the "Flying Dutchman's" scarcest baseball cards extant. Due to Wagner's 1909 T206 Holy Grail, any pre-WWI card depicting the iconic Hall of Fame Pirate shortstop is highly coveted, let alone one that qualifies as a bona-fide scarcity! A seldom seen classic Wagner batting pose reflecting the finest contrast and clarity further enhances this card's desirability, with several faint horizontal wrinkles extending from the left border to his left arm as well as some upper left corner creasing the primary culprits accounting for the assessment.

Collectors will immediately recognize this hallowed image as the same pose affixed to Wagner's iconic T5 Pinkerton cabinet, and other than the aforementioned negligible creases, some modest corner wear and minimal reverse side soiling, the iconic Wagner central pose is relatively intact. One of Honus Wagner's most eclectic cardboard artifacts, it has withstood over a century of potential wear to present itself in this super aesthetically pleasing state!
