1909 T206 Frank Chance "Red Portrait" – Piedmont 150 Subjects/Factory 25 (PSA EX/MT 6)
This stellar PSA EX/MT 6 Frank Chance "Red Portrait" Piedmont Cigarettes 150 Subjects offering resides as one of the more popular T206 Cooperstown Inductees, with the PSA "Pop" chart currently listing only 5 Piedmont Cigarette examples higher! Nicknamed the "Peerless Leader", Frank Chance will eternally be remembered as the final link of the immortal "Tinker to Evers to Chance" double play combination. While a fine 1st baseman and batsman, Chance's place in Cooperstown was solidified by his managerial success. From 1906 – 1910 he led the Cubs to four pennants in five years including two World Championships, a feat that should in no way be underestimated for it took the Cubs 108 years to claim their next championship.
His representation on this spectacular offering likewise depicts a championship caliber sparkling portrait pose that literally "jumps off the card" courtesy of its ultra-bold red background. Fine "side-to-side" centering is somewhat offset by a modest favoritism towards the upper edge, with the bright white borders and relatively clean surface eluding any glaring flaws. The corners reflect diminutive wear consistent with the EX/MT assessment and the verso includes an imposing midnight blue Piedmont 150 Subjects text. One of the more impressive T206 Chance "Red Portrait" subjects in circulation, its fine aesthetics and 111-year existence justify its elite stature among the more sophisticated tobacco enthusiasts!
