(LOT 214)
1909 T206 Cy Young "Cle. Bare Hand Shows" – Piedmont 350 Subjects/Factory 25 (PSA EX/MT 6)

Denton True "Cy" Young's incredible 511 lifetime wins just may be baseball's most imposing and unbreakable record. No wonder it is with little surprise that when baseball decided to present an annual award for pitching excellence, they chose Cy Young's name to represent this single season honor. Similar to this distinction is a superior-like Cy Young century old card, and this T206 "Bare Hand Showing" Piedmont Cigarettes 350 Subjects PSA EX/MT 6 offering suffices as an outstanding representation of the immortal right hander. Consider that PSA's "pop" chart lists only 9 "Piedmont Cigarettes" examples graded higher, a sheer testament to the daunting task of finding high grade specimens for this widely coveted subject. Hall of Famer Cy Young obtained his iconic nickname when he was trying out for the Canton, Ohio minor league team in 1889.

One of his blazing fastballs whizzed past the catcher and broke the rear fence, prompting a reporter to state "the fence looked as if it had been hit by a cyclone"! Word of this quote spread through the town and the "Cy" nickname was solidified in baseball folklore forever. Synonymous to Cy Young's blistering fastball is this card's seemingly "blazer-like" aesthetics that have miraculously retained a vast number of their original attributes. Young's extremely well-centered image reveals sparkling hues including a radiant yellow/orange background, encompassed by four bright white borders and somewhat square corners depicting uniform wear. The only notable flaw is a negligible surface anomaly situated near the upper right quadrant, with the gleaming surface area relatively clean and the flipside exhibiting a bold mid-night blue "Piedmont 350 Subjects" advertisement. Bottom line is you will be hard pressed to find another Cy Young T206 "Bare Hand Showing" PSA 6 specimen that exhibits such superior aesthetics for the grade!
