(LOT 197)
c.1960's Lew Alcindor UCLA "Pre-Rookie" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Malcom W. Emmons Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

As we all know, the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar started his legendary NBA career as Lew Alcindor, eventually choosing to utilize his Islamic "Abdul-Jabbar" name during 1971, his inaugural MVP season. After graduating from New York's Power Memorial High School, Alcindor went on to play collegiate basketball at the prestigious UCLA program, headed by the iconic John Wooden. For 3 seasons at UCLA, Alcindor led the Bruins to an incredible 88-2 record, going 30-0 in the 1966/'67 season in winning the NCAA Basketball National Championship. Before being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1969/'70 campaign, Alcindor would average a sensational 26.4 points and 15.5 rebounds per game for UCLA, with a miraculous-like .639 shooting percentage!

This awe-inspiring 8" x 10" PSA Type 1 photo portrays the extremely young Alcindor donning his renowned #33 UCLA uniform while holding a basketball in his colossal-sized right hand, a bona-fide "Pre-Rookie" offering of this immortal 7'2" Hall of Fame center. Other than a few stray wrinkles near several corners, no glaring blemishes are evident, and the verso includes the critical MALCOLM W. EMMONS credit stamp. Alcindor would start his career with the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1969/'70 campaign and didn't waste any time in establishing himself as the "next" Wilt Chamberlain, averaging 28.8 points and 14,5 rebounds per game in his rookie season. The rest is sheer history with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar tallying a record 38,387 points (24.6 PPG), while recording 17,440 rebounds (11.2 RPG) and 3,189 blocked shots (2.6 BPG) with both figures ranking #3 on the all-time NBA list.

He played in a record 19 All-Star games, won 6 MVP awards and claimed 6 NBA titles, 2 of which he was voted the NBA finals MVP. Along with the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Lebron James, and Kobe Bryant, his uncanny achievements clearly place him as one of the greatest all-time NBA players. No wonder this pre-rookie illustration of the legendary Lew Alcindor stands as one of his most significant heirlooms, serving as a definitive reminder of this dominating center's early achievements and original name, before he ultimately became known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar across the globe!
