1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Championship Team PSA Type 1 Encapsulated New York Daily Mirror Photo – Includes a "Rookie" Sandy Koufax! - Measures Approx. 8" x 10" – PSA Type 1 LOA

WHO'S A BUM! That would be the classic front-page headline of the October 5, 1955 Daily News after the Brooklyn Dodger's defeated the New York Yankees the previous day by a 2-0 score to claim Brooklyn's first and only world championship! Indeed, after years of frustration for falling short to their seemingly superior cross-town rivals, the Dodger's at last did not have to sit around all winter claiming "wait until next year" which had been their long and trying battle-cry. Led by manager Walt Alston, Brooklyn literally "cake-walked" to the National League pennant, winning 98 games and besting their closest competitor, the Milwaukee Braves, by 13-1/2 games.

The Fall Classic would prove to be a "barn-burner", with the Dodgers eventually winning the Series in game#7 at Yankee Stadium by a 2-0 score behind the valiant pitching of 22-year old Johnny Podres (who had also won game#3), and the amazing 6th inning catch by left-fielder Sandy Amoros off of a Yogi Berra batted ball with two men on base that stifled a potential Yankee rally. This Dodger squad was over-loaded with talent, including Hall of Famers Roy Campanella (who won the 1955 N.L. MVP Award), Duke Snider, the iconic Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese and highly touted rookie sensation Sandy Koufax. Other stars included Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, and Jim Gilliam, with the formidable pitching staff comprised of 20-game winner ace Don Newcombe, Carl Erskine, Joe Black, Johnny Podres and rookie sensation Sandy Koufax. This magnificent 8" x 10" New York Daily Mirror 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team photo is the perfect testament for that outstanding world championship squad, with the image emanating the finest possible contrast and crystal-clear clarity.

Magnificent to say the least, its immaculate-like central image remains unscathed, with the only notable flaws being some scattered creases along the left border. The sparkling photo serves as a steadfast reminder of how this persistent group of players finally bested their New York Yankee arch rivals, after some 15 years of "falling short" to the Bronx Bombers including five prior defeats in the Fall Classic. Of utmost significance, the photo also resides as a Sandy Koufax "rookie" image with the Hall of Famer fire-balling southpaw standing in the middle row (third from the left). As a final exclamation point, the verso includes a newspaper caption listing all 33 individuals (players, coaches, trainer, batboy, etc.), six of which are Cooperstown Inductees, with all the names listed as follows:

FRONT ROW (left to right); George Schuba, Don Zimmer, Joe Becker (coach), Jake Pitler (coach), Walter Alston/HOF (manager), Billy Herman (coach), Pee Wee Reese/HOF, Dixie Howell, Sandy Amoros, Roy Campanella/HOF; SEATED IN FRONT: Charley DiGiovanna (batboy)

MIDDLE ROW (left to right); John Griffin (clubhouse custodian); Carl Erskine, Sandy Koufax/HOF, Lee Scott (traveling secretary), Roger Craig, Don Newcombe, Karl Spooner, Don Hoak, Carl Furillo, Frank Kellert, Dr. Harold Wendler (trainer)

BACK ROW (left to right); Russ Meyer, Junior Gilliam, Billy Loes, Clem Labine, Gil Hodges, Ed Roebuck, Don Bessent, Duke Snider/HOF, Johnny Podres, Rube Walker, Jackie Robinson/HOF
