c.1951 Roy Campanella Image Used for Campy's 1953 Red Man #5 Card - PSA Type 1 Encapsulated William Jacobellis Photo – Measures Approx. 4" x 5" - PSA Type I LOA

This magnificent PSA Type 1 William Jacobellis 4" x 5" photo was the EXACT image utilized for Roy Campanella's legendary 1953 Red Man #5 Subject! It unquestionably stands as one of "Campy's" foremost illustrations, for it is no secret that Type 1 photos used for a player's original baseball card are highly coveted and valuable in today's market, especially when they were issued by the renowned photographer William Jacobellis. Advanced photo enthusiasts are well aware of the prestige associated with any "Jacobellis" photo with some of his revered contact proofs previously selling for record prices including "rookie era" images for Mantle, Mays and Namath.

Campanella's stature likewise resides high among baseball's greatest catchers, and due to the tragic car-accident that left the Dodger's immortal Hall of Fame catcher paralyzed for life, there is an unquestionable sentiment and desirability for his revered artifacts. Winner of three MVP awards in a brief but outstanding career, Campanella defined the embodiment of courage, and along with Jackie Robinson, was the inspirational leader of the great 1950's Brooklyn Dodger teams. This exalted image emanates breathtaking eye appeal, starting with the crystal-clear clarity and virtually perfect contrast. The sanctified pose of Campanella in a "squatting-throwing" position against the classic Ebbets Field backdrop simply send chills down one's spine. This imposing black-bordered image reveals no glaring surface blemishes and includes the significant "WILLIAM N. JACOBELLIS" credit stamp on its verso, the final "thumbs-up" for a momentous Campanella photo depicting the hallowed image affixed to his 1953 Red Man #5 cardboard issue!
