(LOT 142)
c.1927's Babe Ruth & Walter Johnson Original Type I Encapsulated Photo - Measures Approx. 5-3/4" x 7-3/4"

This ultra-eclectic image depicts baseball's greatest all-time hurler Walter Johnson standing alongside none other than our National Pastime's finest player ever, George Herman "Babe" Ruth. Even more enticing is the fact the image of these two baseball immortals was taken during the illustrious 1927 season when Babe Ruth and his legendary New York Yankees would turn the baseball world "upside down" via their arguable greatest season ever as they literally "cake walked" to the World Championship. The Bambino's record-setting 60 home runs set the pace, and while Ruth was blasting round-trippers at an alarming pace, the great Walter Johnson would be finishing up his incredible 21-year career to the tune of a modern-day record 417 lifetime wins!

Always one for the strangest of publicity stunts, the "Babe" is donning his Yankees road gray flannels, with both him and Johnson holding prize-winning roosters entered in the 1927 Southern National Poultry show. Measuring approximately 5-3/4" x 7-3/4", the central image reveals superb contrast and resolution, with some scattered wrinkles predominately situated along the encompassing border. Corner chips are evident near the upper and lower left corners, and an area of soiling is apparent between Ruth and Johnson's baseball stockings. The final compliment is the blue caption affixed to the verso that mentions the prize-winning roosters as well as the "Babe's" 60 homers and 1927 being Johnson's final season. An extremely obscure offering of our National Pastime's greatest all-time player and pitcher, it is a momentous testament to these two unparalleled icons, with both the "Sultan of Swat" and the "Big Train" dominating their craft arguably better than anyone who ever graced a baseball diamond!
