1923 Babe Ruth Girl Scout PSA Type I Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" - PSA Type I Encapsulation

It is surely no secret that outside of the playing field, the immortal George Herman "Babe" Ruth was one of the most benevolent athletes around the globe. Simply stated, "The Babe" adored virtually every one of his captivated fans, and this extremely eclectic PSA Type 1 1923 image portrays the Bambino taking a photoshoot with a seemingly enthralled Girl Scout admirer. Taken at the Polo Grounds on October 15, 1923 before the last game of the 1923 World Series, Ruth is donning his "New York" road gray flannels, standing next to extremely excited Girl Scout representative Alma Swahlin.

The poster Ruth is holding up includes an image of the beaming "poster child" Ms. Swahlin, with references to the Girl Scout Drive week of October 20th-27th, the 1924 Girl Scout budget of $439,703 and the following marketing slogan: "GIVE TO HER – SHE GIVES SERVICE". Highlighting this image is the large girl scout cookie affixed in Ruth's mouth as he grins at his exhilarated female friend. The central image emanates sensational contrast/clarity and the only clearly visible flaws are situated around the surrounding borders including creases near the upper left corner and central right border, a tape blemish near the upper right corner and a lower left corner chip.

The verso reveals the critical Underwood & Underwood credit stamp and caption detailing the photo's following historical significance: "BABE RUTH BITES INTO ONE OF THE MILLION GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. - Showing Babe Ruth at the last game of the World Series, biting into one of the real home-made sugar cookies, sold him by Girl Scout Alma Swahlin, in the new "Million Cookie Drive" for the Girl Scout Fund. A five-foot bag of cookies baked by the Girl Scouts of New York for President and Mrs. Coolidge will be presented at the White House tomorrow officially starting Girl Scout Week. The President has written a letter to Mrs. V. Everit Macy, executive board chairman of the G.S., endorsing the "cookie drive." – 10/16/23". As we all know, after these Girl Scout pre-game#6 festivities were concluded, the Yankees would take the field and best their cross-town rival New York Giants by a 6-4 score to claim their inaugural Championship, the first of a record setting 27 World Series Titles they would achieve in their unparalleled history!
