c.1910's Grover Cleveland Alexander PSA Type 1 Encapsulated George Grantham Bain Photo – Measures Approx. 4" x 6" - PSA Type I LOA

Nicknamed "Old Pete", Grover Cleveland Alexander's pitching exploits justify why he stands tall as one of the greatest pitchers in major league history. It didn't take Alexander long to place his stamp on the major leagues, with the Philadelphia Phillies magnificent right-handed twirler winning 28 games his 1911 rookie campaign. From 1915 thru 1917, he put together three of the most imposing consecutive seasons any hurler could possibly imagine, winning three consecutive pitching "Triple Crowns" by leading the National League in wins, E.R.A. and strikeouts while compiling 30 or more wins all three campaigns. He would end his remarkable career with 373 victories, tied with Christy Mathewson for the most lifetime wins in the National League, and toss 90 shutouts, likewise a Senior Circuit record. Unfortunately for "Old Pete", he was typically overshadowed by the immortal Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson, even though on a statistical basis, his numbers were equally impressive.

This magnificent c.1910's PSA Type 1 Grover photo truly resides as one of his foremost illustrations, taken by the iconic George Grantham Bain at the height of Alexander's sensational career. The striking image reveals "Old Pete" donning his classic Phillies Jersey as well as his neat period-style cap, with the fine contrast and resolution adding to its awe-inspiring aesthetics. Only some modest surface scratches/wrinkles are evident, and the borders exhibit standard toning for a century old memento. Directly beneath the upper border is Alexander's name boldly printed in black as well as a "3970-3" notation, and the flipside includes the critical George Grantham Bain News Service credit stamp. Seldom do early 1910's Type 1 images of the legendary Alexander surface for the taking, especially ones issued by the prestigious Bain who will forever stand as one of our National Pastime's foremost photographers!
