(LOT 8)
Babe Ruth Signed Original 8" x 10" 1932 Photo w/Ruth Adding "Claire's" Name – Dated Feb 29, 1932 and Personalized to Teammate George Pipgras & his wife Eva – "Called Shot" Season – PSA/DNA Encapsulated

No baseball memorabilia collection could possibly be considered complete without a classic autograph of the majestic George Herman Babe Ruth. You will receive NO argument from any baseball historian that the "Sultan of Swat" is our National Pastime's greatest all-time player. Both from the pitcher's rubber with the Boston Red Sox, and from the batter's box with the New York Yankees, he was, undoubtedly, the "best of the rest", pitching the Red Sox to three World Series victories, and slugging his way to Home Run immortality with the Yankees. With that in mind, it would make sense to capture one of the "Bambino's" more popular autographed keepsakes, and this "unique" signed 1932 original photo easily stands as one of Ruth's foremost scripted images.

What makes it so intriguing is that it was gifted to his close friend and teammate George Pipgras (as well as to his wife Eva) before the 1932 season. Signed on February 29, 1932, Ruth is posing with his wife Claire in a candid moment, and has signed this 8" x 10" masterpiece "To Geo & Eva – Best Wishes - Claire & Babe Ruth – Feb. 29, 1932." Scripted in classic black fountain pen and presenting itself in solid 8/9 strength, Ruth signed this image for both Claire and himself. We can only assume that the picture was taken at the Yankees 1932 Spring Training facility in St. Petersburg, Florida where the Yankees would prepare for the regular season at the renowned Crescent Lake Field. Accompanied by a full PSA/DNA LOA, the image reveals the Babe and Claire in a leisurely moment, both dressed in dapper/formal attire as the "Sultan of Swat" prepares for another stellar campaign.

Portraying awe-inspiring aesthetics, the contrast and clarity are near-perfect, and other than a few stray faint wrinkles and diminutive soiling spots, no glaring flaws are evident. Little did Ruth realize at the time that the 1932 campaign would ultimately lead to the Yankees once again playing in the Fall Classic, with the Yankees four-game sweep of the overmatched Cubbies a virtual anticlimax versus Ruth's iconic "called-shot" HR in game#3 at Wrigley Field. A bona-fide "one of a kind" signed Ruth offering for his fond teammate George Pipgras, it stands as a vivid reminder of Ruth's unparalleled kindness towards his teammates and friends, with "The Babe" always finding the time to offer a scripted salutation for the people he truly cherished!
