(LOT 195)
Melvin Purvis FBI Agent Signed Canceled Check "Little Mel" Died in 1960 PSA/DNA 8 NM-MT

Purvis writes this check to Paper City Motor Sales for $2.73 on 1/26/43 off the FIRST NATIONAL BANK AND TRUST CO. from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Purvis was a law enforcement official and FBI agent. Given the nickname "Little Mel" because of his short frame, Purvis became noted for leading the manhunts that captured bank robbers such as Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger, and Pretty Boy Floyd, but his high public profile was resented by local law enforcement. Purvis asserted he had killed Floyd single-handed, others variously claimed that Floyd had been already wounded, or even that Purvis had ordered Floyd summarily shot dead for refusing to provide information. A great check to add to your historical check collection.
