c.1940's Ted Williams "Portrait" PSA Type I Encapsulated Photo – Measures Approx. 5-1/4" x 7"
"I would love to walk down the street one day with people passing me and stating, there goes the greatest hitter the game has ever seen"! Such was the dream of a young Ted Williams as he pursued his place in baseball history with a steadfast persistence. Ultimately, Ted's dream did become a reality for most baseball experts agree that Ted Williams is the greatest hitter who ever graced a batter's box. The "Splendid Splinter" not only handled the bat better than any MLB player, but served two stints as a fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War. It is, therefore, both his baseball iconic stature and wartime heroism that led to him being the true embodiment of a National hero.
For all these reasons, his Boston Red Sox artifacts hold a special place in collectors' hearts with this truly outstanding PSA Type I portrait photo most likely issued during the early 1940's. Measuring approximately 5-1/4" x 7", "The Kid" portrays a breathtaking candid smile with his good-natured "boyish" grin absolutely "stealing the show". The brilliant illustration could virtually inspire anyone, emanating near-perfect contrast and resolution between four bright white borders. Other than a diminutive surface scratch above his right ear, no noteworthy flaws are evident, and the relatively clean verso reveals a few pencil notations reading "Ted Williams – left field". One of the most captivating Ted Williams photos you will ever encounter, it resides as a bona-fide heirloom for this immortal Cooperstown inductee who terrorized pitchers in an unfathomable four different decades! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
