(LOT 105)
1933 New York Yankees Team Photo – PSA Type I LOA – Thorne Photo Studios – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 16"

Fresh off the heels of their historic 1932 World Championship, the 1933 Yankees would finish with a formidable 91-59 record that unfortunately left them 7 games behind the A.L. pennant-winning Washington Senators. Managed by Joe McCarthy, this would be the final season that Babe Ruth would eclipse the .300 mark, batting a stellar .301 while blasting 34 round trippers and knocking in 104 runs. The Bambino's iconic slugging teammate Lou Gehrig would enjoy another "monster" season as well, posting a .334 average, blasting 32 round-trippers and driving in a spectacular 140 runs. Most incredibly, this team would include a staggering 11 Hall of Famers with that illustrious list of Cooperstown Inductees as follows: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Earle Combs, Joe Sewell, Herb Pennock, Red Ruffing, Lefty Gomez, manager Joe McCarthy and team owner Jacob Ruppert!

Imagine, eleven members of baseball's illustrious HOF represented on a single ballclub, substantiating why this oversized 6-1/2' x 16" 1933 Yankees team Photo resides as one of the finest team photos on the planet. Deemed a Type 1 image by the prestigious PSA Company, it was struck by the renowned Thorne Photo Studios, with its colossal size rendering it as one of the rarest images you will ever come across. Most likely taken during spring training 1933, all of the cap-less Yankees are donning their gray flannel "New York" road uniforms, with the "Sultan of Swat" standing in the back-row 6th from the left and the "Iron Horse" standing in the second row, third from the right. Team owner Col. Jacob Ruppert is likewise standing in the second row, 7th from the left, with manager Joe McCarthy situated directly next to Ruppert's left side (8th from the left).

Of interesting note, legendary mascot and batboy Eddie Bennet is seated in the front row directly in-between Ruppert and McCarthy, with this most likely being his final appearance on any Yankees team picture due to his retirement as the Yankees mascot in mid-season 1933. The black & white image is in superb condition, revealing brilliant contrast and resolution and only a handful of negligible stray creases/wrinkles, as well as some moderate edge/corner wear. A bold black Thorne Studio print situated in the lower right quadrant reads: "The Yankee Team '33 – Thorne Photo", and the verso includes the significant "THORNE PHOTO" credit stamp. A truly magnificent memento from the 1933 Yankees season, it includes an awe-inspiring 11 Hall of Famers, with Ruth and Gehrig paving the way for this possibly "unique" museum worthy masterpiece! – PSA Type I LOA
