(LOT 98)
c.1927/'28 1927 Ty Cobb Swinging in an Athletics Uniform - PSA Type I Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

For the 1927 season, Connie Mack would purchase both the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb and Eddie Collins to bolster his already formidable roster that included Cooperstown inductees Foxx, Simmons, Cochrane, Wheat and Grove. While the Athletics were still not able to best the Yankees in 1927 and 1928, the legendary Cobb certainly did his part. The "Georgia Peach" batted a robust .357 and .323 his final two seasons, ending his incredible career with a still record .366 lifetime batting average. During his celebrated career, the majestic Ty Cobb captured a remarkable 12 batting championships in a 13-year period, including three seasons of eclipsing the pinnacle .400 benchmark.

Simply stated, Cobb could do it all on a ball field, and there are still many historians that place this 1936 Hall of Fame charter member as baseball's all-time player. This extremely imposing 8" x 10" Underwood & Underwood offering portrays the iconic Cobb donning his new Philadelphia Athletics uniform in a classic swinging pose, exhibiting super fine centering between four bright white borders. The image has remained in superb condition, with Cobb's legendary batting image reflecting crystal clear clarity and a modestly darker contrast. No obtrusive flaws are evident, the final compliment for an offering that truly represents the "last hurrah" for one of the most iconic ballplayers who ever graced a baseball diamond! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
