(LOT 91)
1926 Babe Ruth & Judge Landis at the 1926 World Series - PSA Type I Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"

Here is one you won't see very often! This ultra-scarce 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" image depicts the great Bambino posing with the iconic Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis at St, Louis's Sportsman Park before Game 3 of the 1926 World Series (also included in the photo is St. Louis Mayor Miller). Interestingly enough, both Ruth and Landis are displaying extremely cheerful smiles, a rather ironic and unexpected scenario considering the assumed distain these two individuals had for each other. Judge Landis suspended and fined Ruth for several games during the 1922 campaign for violating MLB's strict "after-season" barnstorming policy during the Fall of 1921. This suspension would forever "rub the Babe the wrong way", and it was no secret there was "no love lost" between Ruth and Landis.

Yet, surprisingly, before the commencement of Game#3 of the World Series, they certainly managed to put the past behind them for at least a fleeting moment so that the cameraman could capture a grand illustration for the prestigious Underwood & Underwood News Service. The extremely well-centered image emulates breathtaking contrast and clarity as these two Cooperstown Inductees shake hands before an exhilarated packed house at Sportsman Park on October 5, 1926. No glaring blemishes are evident, the obverse side surface is relatively clean, and the verso reflects the renowned UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD credit stamp as well as a critical 10/6/26 caption detailing the photo's events. The Yankees would lose to the Cardinals that day by a 4-0 score, with St, Louis eventually winning the Series in seven games. An obscure Babe Ruth heirloom, this seemingly near-impossible image portrays Ruth and Landis actually being cordial towards each other during the historic 1926 Fall Classic! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
