(LOT 66)
"Fresh to the Hobby" 1955 Ashland/Aetna Oil College Basketball 6-Card Complete Strip incl. Phillip Grawemeyer; Ray Mills; Guy Strong; Paul Collins; Steve Hamilton; David Breeze

This magnificent and complete 6-card 1955 Ashland/Aetna Oil College Basketball vertical strip includes the original factory issued 6 un-cut subjects from the Kentucky-based Wildcats, Eastern Maroons, and Morehead Eagles. Players include forward Phillip Grawemeyer (Wildcats); center Ray Mills (Wildcats); guard Guy Strong (Maroons); forward Phil Collins (Maroons); forward Steve Hamilton (Morehead Eagles) and forward David Breeze (Morehead Eagles). The top header includes the standard "hole-punch" utilized for purposes of hanging the 6-card strips on a gas station rack. This 6-card panel includes 2 players from 3-different Kentucky-based schools, with the header caption reflecting "KY. – EASTERN – MOREHEAD NO. 3" text (the "NO. 3 denotes the KY; EASTERN & MOREHEAD schools).

Other than the aforementioned standard hole punch, the remainder of the strip is brilliant, exhibiting captivating eye appeal including 6 sparkling portrait images, a razor-sharp perimeter and near-immaculate surfaces. Each subject's classic Ashland Oil ad-back depicts the player's vital statistics, graduation class and hometown, and of significant note, Morehead Eagles forward Steve Hamilton resides as one of only two players who played in both a World Series (1963 Yankees pitcher) and NBA Finals (1959 Lakers power forward). Ultra-rare and "fresh to the hobby", along with the other un-cut strips in this auction it stands as the first un-cut strip we have ever come across, with its unparalleled paucity level justifying its highly coveted "type card" stature!
