(LOT 5)
Extraordinary 1927 New York Yankees Autographed Display Piece w/20 Signatures Incl. Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, Hoyt & Pennock – Museum Matted & Framed - Measures Approx. 38" x 46" – Full PSA/DNA LOA

The immortal 1927 Yankees are arguably considered "the greatest team in baseball history". Led by Babe Ruth's record-setting 60 home runs and Lou Gehrig's MVP season, "Murderer's Row" (Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, and Combs) paved the way for the Yankees winning an amazing 110 games against only 44 loses, literally "cake-walking" to the American League pennant behind the wizardry of HOF manager Miller Huggins. As an almost "anticlimax", the Yankees would eventually claim their second world championship by easily sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in an uncontested four straight games.

As a fitting testament for that incomparable '27 season, presented here is an extraordinary museum matted and framed 38" x 46" display piece that includes 20 autographs from that memorable squad (including 6 Hall of Famers). All of the signatures are scripted on either "cuts", index cards, or "cut checks", with the respective autographs situated beneath 17 1927 Yankees player cards taken from the "1991 Charles Conlon Series" modern-day set. It should be noted that the "cut" depicting both Combs and Lazzeri, also reflects the Hall of Fame autographs of Bill Dickey and a rookie-era Joe DiMaggio while the Art Fletcher "cut" includes HOF manager Joe McCarthy (all 3 additional Hall of Famers were not part of the 1927 Yankees).

These 3 additional scripts from the great 1930's "Bronx Bombers" teams bring the total number of signatures to 20, of which a very impressive 9 represent Cooperstown Inductees. Of utmost significance, however, are the 6 Hall of Fame signatures from the 1927 club including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt and Herb Pennock (a list of all the signatures is included near the end of the description). The collage includes two modern day prints of the 1927 Yankees team and a classic Ruth/Gehrig photo, as well as a color copy of the 1927 World Series program.

Our esteemed consignor also had a special 1927 nameplate created for this amazing display piece that includes the following inscribed title and 17 player names from the '27 Yankee team, all represented by a corresponding autograph: "1927 WORLD CHAMPIONS NEW YORK YANKEES – WOLRD SERIES Starting Lineup – Lou Gehrig – 1B; Tony Lazzeri – 2B; Mark Koenig – SS; Joe Dugan – 3B; Babe Ruth – OF; Earle Combs – OF; Bob Meusel – OF: Benny Bengough – C; Wilcy Moore – P; Herb Pennock – P; George Pipgras – P; Waite Hoyt – P; Bob Shawkey – P; Ray Morehart – 2B; Ben Paschal – OF; Mike Gazella – 3B; Art Fletcher – Coach.

Its remarkable aesthetics are strongly enhanced by the outstanding black/gold hued vintage-like frame as well as the classic Yankee pinstripe matting that serves as a perfect complement to the seemingly timeless signatures. Overwhelming to say at the very least, this colossal presentation conjures up vivid memories for a truly epic era when Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and their remaining Yankee teammates captivated an entire Nation via their pinnacle-like 1927 campaign!
