(LOT 639)
c.1920's Connie Mack Type 1 Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

One of our National pastime's greatest all-time managers, Connie Mack will forever be linked to the formal attire he wore in the dugout managing the Philadelphia Athletics. Seldom surfacing, this ultra-obscure c.1920's Type 1 portrait offering depicts the Hall of Famer manager in his highly recognizable suit and top hat, with isolated/close-up images of Mack donning his formal attire considered extremely rare. Hall of Famer Connie Mack managed the Philadelphia Athletics for 50 consecutive years, a staggering record that most likely will never be broken. Throughout that half-century, he captured an impressive 9 A.L. pennants and 5 World Championships (1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930).

Before he wore his managerial suit and Abe Lincoln like top-hat, he was a formidable 19th century player, handling every position except 3rd base and pitcher, with catching being his primary chore. Measuring approximately 6-1/2" x 8-1/2", Mack's classic pose depicts amazing contrast and crystal-clear clarity, with the borderless sepia-toned image eluding any glaring flaws over the past century. Remarkably, the surface barely reveals only a few stray microscopic-like wrinkles and faint scratches that are only apparent under close inspection. In closing, we cannot overemphasize the absolute brilliance of this seemingly "timeless" photo that portrays the iconic Athletics manager in the attire he wore in the dugout for an unfathomable 50-year tenure, with that "un-breakable" record surely to stand the test of time!
