(LOT 608)
ICONIC 1963 Type 1 Photo of JFK Jr. Saluting his Father's Flag-Draped casket at JFK's Funeral on November 25, 1963 - Minneapolis Tribune - Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

One of the most tragic days in U.S. History will forever be November 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. The country came to a sudden halt due to the shock and disturbing events of this earth-shattering assassination that claimed the life of one of America's most beloved leaders. Three days later, on November 25th, John F. Kennedy would be laid to rest for eternity at Arlington National Cemetery, after an extensive procession through the streets of Washington, D.C. It was after leaving St. Mathew's Cathedral on that final route to the cemetery that one of the most iconic moments in American history would take place. In one of the most heart-wrenching and equally awe-inspiring scenes ever, John F. Kennedy, Jr., standing between his legendary mother Jackie Kennedy and Uncle Robert F. Kennedy, stepped slightly forward and with his right hand saluted the flag-draped casket as a final dignified gesture for the dad he loved so much.

As the saying goes, there wasn't a "dry house in the house", for this ultra-sad display of love and respect for his fallen father will forever stand as one of the most legendary scenes in our country's seemingly infinite list of revered events. Ironically, "John-John", as his dad so commonly called him, had just turned 3-years old that melancholy November 25th day that "broke the hearts" of millions of Americans. The original image was first taken by photographer Dan Farrell who was not at a loss for words when he dubbed this tragic event as the "saddest thing I've ever seen in my whole life". One of the most sought-after photos in the entire collecting community, we at Memory lane are now proud to present one of the few existing original TYPE 1 images of "John-John's" exalted JFK salute, with the 8" x 10" marvel easily sufficing as one of the most significant photos on the planet!

Measuring 8" x 10", it has miraculously outlasted "Father-Time", stubbornly defying the past 56 years to retain a majority of its original pristine-like qualities. Aesthetically brilliant, it emulates crystal clear clarity, superb contrast, and fine centering, with only a few microscopic like surface scratches barely visible to the naked eye not impeding the sensational eye appeal. The verso includes a newspaper caption that reads: "A very famous picture is this one of John F. Kennedy Jr. saluting his daddy's flag-draped casket as he stood by his grieving mother the day of the funeral. It was also the third birthday of "John-John", as his father called him, but big crowds of people and lots of sadness replaced the birthday party he had expected to have". In closing and with the utmost respect and American pride, there are no appropriate words to express the monumental stature of this extraordinary museum worthy masterpiece that via its celebrated historical significance, will surely "echo for eternity!"
