(LOT 290)
1954 Bowman #43 Bob Friend - Incorrect "20 Shutouts in Quiz" Variation (PSA Gem Mint 10) – "1 of 2": Highest Graded Example!

This amazing "PSA Gem Mint 10" 1954 Bowman Bob Friend marvel currently resides as one of only 2 examples at this hallowed tier and the finest of its kind! Of significant note, this #43 subject is the INCORRECT "20 Shutouts in Quiz" variation (as opposed to the correct "16 Shutouts in Quiz" version). The 1954 Bowman Gum Company originally released the following full question: "Who pitched 20 shutout games in 1916?" As all baseball enthusiasts realize, the correct question should have been "Who pitched 16 shutout games in 1916?" with the accurate answer being the immortal Grover Alexander.

As was the case with 40 different 1954 variation cards, Bowman fixed their inaccurate printing errors, re-issuing the 40 erroneous subjects reflecting correct stats and/or verbiage, with the Bob Friend Billy subject being one of those variations. The image itself is virtually immaculate, with the Pirate's star right-handed twirler Bob Friend depicting a candid smile and donning his classic Pittsburgh road uniform. The sparkling hues and impeccable resolution literally assist the extremely well-centered illustration in jumping off the card, with the dazzling white borders, flawless-like surfaces and razor-sharp perimeter all contributing to the ultra-rare "10" assessment!
