(LOT 279)
1954 Bowman #19 Bobby Shantz (PSA Gem Mint 10) – "1 of 2": Highest Graded Example!

Knuckleball specialist Bobby Shantz pitched 16 MLB seasons for seven different ballclubs, winning 119 games and posting a formidable 3.38 lifetime E.R.A. His most successful season was 1952 with the Philadelphia Athletics when he led the American League with 24 wins, a .774 winning percentage and a superb 2.48 E.R.A., with those imposing numbers more than enough to convince the sportswriters to select him as the at A.L. Most Valuable Player.

Synonymous with that world-class campaign is this unfathomable "PSA Gem Mint 10" 1954 Bowman Bobby Shantz subject that along with only a single other example, stands as the finest of its kind! Miraculous to say the least, finding 65-tear old baseball cards sporting PSA "10" grades is no simple task, with this Shantz gem earning its rightful assessment via the breathtaking half-body/portrait pose that appears as if it was printed yesterday. Brilliant hues, vivid registration, near-perfect centering between four snow white borders, pinpoint corners and a gleaming obverse side surface all substantiate the sanctified grade that merits this cardboard marvel a secure place in any advanced 1954 Bowman PSA Registered set!
