MLI4454 - 1903 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet– William Coughlin - Uniform "Type 2" Variation (PSA Good 2/MK) - The Only PSA Listed "Type 2" W600 Coughlin!

Presented here is an extremely obscure "PSA Good 2/MK" 1903 W600 Sporting Life Type 2 Mount of William Coughlin. Seldom surfacing for the taking, PSA currently lists this cardboard marvel as the SOLE definitive "Type 2" Coughlin example with a meager three other specimens listed for all possible Type related mounts.

Slick fielding third baseman William Paul Coughlin played 9 MLB seasons with Washington and Detroit, with his final two seasons (1907 & 1908) being part of the Tigers' pennant winning clubs. Born in Scranton, PA., he was nicknamed 'Scranton Bill" and his most formidable season was in 1902 with the Senators when he posted career highs in batting average (.301) and OPS (.762) while knocking in 71 runs. Measuring approximately 5" x 7-1/2", the W600 Sporting Life Photo-type Cabinets were issued from 1902 thru 1911 by the Sporting Life Weekly Newspaper in Philadelphia, PA. and are one of the most coveted oversized cards in the hobby. Indeed, while "Rowdy Bill" Coughlin will never be enshrined in Cooperstown, N.Y., this outstanding W600 offering will soundly portrays Hall of Fame cardboard caliber via its irrefutable paucity level and stellar central image aesthetics.

The brilliant Carl Horner portrait pose "steals the show" via its crystal-clear clarity, with the majority of the front side depicting magnificent eye appeal. Its only negative attribute is the modest "(1902)" penned notation directly beneath the central frame that accounts for the "MK" qualifier. Furthermore, Additionally, the verso portrays glue remnants from obvious scrapbook removal, with the remainder of the card reflecting "EX+" aesthetics. Bottom line is the remarkable obverse side eye appeal coupled with the card's irrefutable rarity combine to place this Coughlin heirloom as no ordinary "common!"
