(LOT 136)
Don Baylor's 1979 Angel of the Year Award – Presented by INDEPENDENT PRESS TELEGRAM - Becky Baylor LOA

Unquestionably, Don Baylor's greatest offensive season was with the California Angels in 1979 when the right-handed hitting slugger compiled 36 Home Runs, a staggering 139 runs batted in, and a sensational .901 OPS. This virtually "uncanny" season eventually led not only to an obvious American League All-Star nod, but more significantly, a league MVP award! Indeed, this burly power hitter set single-season career highs for all three of those epic offensive statistic in leading the Angels to an A.L. West Divisional title. Unfortunately for Baylor and the Angels, they would loss the ALCS to the Baltimore Orioles in a tightly contested 4-game series, with Baylor smacking a home run in the Angels only series win (Game#4).

In lieu of Baylor's remarkable season and unparalleled leadership qualities that spearheaded the Angles to a division title, the Independent Press Telegram presented him with the 1979 "Angel of the Year" award. A local Long Beach new source, this popular company provided Baylor with this distinguished honor via an absolutely breathtaking silver cup that is mounted to a thick wooden base. Measuring approximately 13" tall (from the bottom of the base to the top of the cup) and 9-1/2" wide, it weighs a substantial 6-lbs, 2.6-oz.

A black rectangular shaped plaque is affixed to the base with the significant inscription reading as follows: "ANGEL of the YEAR – Don Baylor – 1979 – PRESENTED BY INDEPENDENT, PRESS-TELEGRAM". The silver hued cup includes elaborate handles and a rimmed top with a majority of its original attributes well preserved over the past 40 years. An awe-inspiring tribute to Don Baylor, it solidified his incredible 1979 season that saw the fearsome slugger claim an American League MVP and this cherished "Angel of the Year" award, with both distinguished honors a bona-fide testament for his finest season ever! - Becky Baylor LOA
