c.1920's Lou Gehrig PSA Type 1 Original International Newsreel Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - PSA Type 1 Encapsulation
Here is one you don't see very often! Eclectic to say the least, this magnificent 8" x 10" c.1920's image portrays the immortal Henry Louis Gehrig sitting at the peak of an extremely large rock trying to catch fish! Donning his casual fishing attire including a flamboyant cowboy's hat, a smiling "Iron Horse" has cast his fishing line into the water with the hope of capturing his dinner. A beautiful backdrop includes the scenic landscape, lake (or river) with its standard ripples, and the imposing triangular rock that almost feels as if it is about to "swallow up" Gehrig via its colossal size. Depicting crystal clear clarity and superb contrast, no glaring blemishes are evident.
Only a few stray and negligible winkles exist, with a diminutive vertical tear situated near the lower edge that does not impede on this offering's stellar aesthetics. The verso includes the "INTERNATIONAL NEWSREEL" and "CHRISTY WALSH SYNICATE" credit stamps and someone has written in black fountain ink: "Lou Gehrig Fishing from peak". An extremely obscure Gehrig offering, it does not include him donning his typical Yankee pinstripes that he wore for some 15 years to the tune of 2,130 consecutive games. Most would agree that any pre-1930 Gehrig image merits serious hobby accolades, let alone one that captures the incomparable "Iron Horse" at a craft other than walloping baseballs towards the furthest confines of any Major League Stadium! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
