(LOT 91)
1909 T206 Roger Bresnahan "Portrait" – Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects/Factory 649/Overprint (PSA NM/MT 8) - "1 of 2" Sweet Caps; NO PSA Listed Sweet Caps Graded Higher!"

Originally brought up to the Major Leagues as a standout pitcher, Hall of Fame catcher Roger Bresnahan actually tossed a six-hit shutout in his Major League debut against the St. Louis Browns. He would eventually try several other positions before finding his niche as John McGraw's first-string catcher on his 1905 championship team. While a formidable hitter and stellar defensive catcher, his most notable contributions to our National Pastime were the protective devices he created for batting and catching after he was hospitalized by a bean-ball in 1905. He is largely credited for the first batter's helmet, protective catcher's shin guards and provided significant input in escalating the technology for the catcher's mask.

Presented here is Bresnahan's Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects 'factory 649 Overprint" portrait version in a spectacular PSA NM/MT 8 holder, one of only 2 Sweet Caps at this elevated plateau with NO PSA listed Sweet Caps graded higher! Bresnahan held the distinction of being the finest catcher of his day as well as being the battery mate of the immortal Christy Mathewson, and likewise, this T206 marvel resides as one of his grandest cardboard century old artifacts. A scintillating Carl Horner portrait illustration of the by-gone star portrays un-improvable attributes, including robust facial hues, rich gray and red uniform colors and a near-flawless deep green setting. Dazzling white borders, a well-positioned image only modestly favoring the upper edge, precision cut corners and a super clean bold red "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes 150 Subjects" reverse side are the final exclamation points to a card that anxiously awaits a new home in a world-class PSA Registered T206 set!
