(LOT 88)
1909 T206 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder "Piedmont 350-460 Subjects/Factory 25" (PSA EX/MT 6)

The pricing escalation of T206 Cobb's continues to rank among the strongest of all baseball card value upticks, with these "Georgia Peach" tobacco relics seemingly fetching record-breaking prices with each and every sale. Regarding sheer stature, the four T206 Cobb subjects stand alongside other pre-war icons such as the T206 Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth Baltimore News and M101 Rookie, Cobb w/a Cobb Back, T206 Eddie Plank, and the Goudey Lajoie. In 1909, the American Tobacco Company (ATC) fully recognized that Tyrus Raymond Cobb was the premier ball player of the day (with all due respect to Wagner), and proceeded in issuing four different Cobb subjects in their renowned T206 tobacco card distribution. Two of those poses included Cobb portrait images, while the other two portrayed the iconic Tiger's star in "bat on" and "bat off" shoulder images.

All four of these Ty Cobb keepsakes are included in PSA's "Top 250 Sportscards" publication with high-grade specimens both extremely coveted and scarce. Presented here is an outstanding PSA 6 Ty Cobb "Bat Off Shoulder" Piedmont 350-460 Subjects/Factory 25 subject that emanates superb centering and a sparkling image. Ty Cobb's unparalleled batting achievements include 12 batting titles in a 13-year stretch, 9 of which were achieved over an unfathomable nine consecutive seasons! A 1936 charter member of baseball's Hall of Fame, his .366 lifetime batting average is widely regarded as one of baseball's "un-breakable" records and his status as one of our National Pastime's greatest players is forever embedded in the hearts and minds of baseball's most prominent enthusiasts.

Ironically, Cobb's unparalleled legacy is synonymous with the overall aesthetic brilliance of this century old offering. Starting with the spectacular gray oriented hues on his classic Tigers uniform as well as the detailed intensity projected from his facial expression, Cobb looks as if he is about to unleash his classic swing that ultimately led to his pinnacle .366 lifetime average. You can literally see the wood grain detail on Cobb's bat, the smoke emanating from the period style smokestack, and his revered "hands apart" grip that serves as a steadfast reminder of how the "Georgia Peach" easily controlled every one of his majestic swings.

More impressively, the radiant yellow, orange, blue and green colored tints, blinding white borders, aforementioned fine centering (only showing a slight favoritism towards the right edge), and relatively clean surfaces complete this spectacular specimen. One of Cobb's highly coveted tobacco cards, its spectacular eye appeal and strong PSA EX 6 assessment justify why it should find a final resting place in any advanced T206 gathering!
