Renowned Ty Cobb & Honus Wagner Vintage Photo Used for their M101-2 Sporting News Supplement; PC796 Postcard & Novelty Cutlery Postcard – Christy Walsh Syndicate Image
This classic photo of Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner stands as one of the hobby's most celebrated images since it was utilized for their iconic M101-2 Sporting News Supplement; PC796 Postcard and Novelty Cutlery Postcard! Pre-war collectors would widely agree that these are three extremely popular images portraying both the "Georgia Peach" and "Flying Dutchman" as they shake hands before one of their legendary 1909 World Series contests. Although deemed a Type 4 photo by PSA, it was still issued some 90 years ago by the renowned Christy Walsh Syndicate with a detailed caption revealing an account of the photos 1909 history.

Measuring approximately 7" x 8-3/4", the image reflects these two baseball immortals graciously shaking hands with Ty Cobb's facial expression actually depicting an atypical good-natured grin. While the contrast is fine, typical with most Type 4 images, the resolution is somewhat less than standard due to the photo being taken from a duplicate negative. Condition issues include a number of stray creases/wrinkles and upper left corner chip, none of which negatively impact the critical central image. Although it stands as a Type 4 photo, what is most significant is that to the best of our knowledge, no original Type 1 photo is known to exist, with this image the only "vintage" rendition we have ever come across representing that classic Cobb/Wagner pose gracing several of their most esteemed cardboard collectibles! - PSA Type 4 LOA
