(LOT 155)
1970 Topps #600 Willie Mays PSA 10 GEM MINT

After suffering thru a somewhat injury plagued 1969 campaign, the "Say Hey Kid" rebounded in 1970 to put together a stellar season that saw the all-star centerfielder smack 28 round trippers, knock in 83 runs, and post a formidable .291 batting average as well as a superb .506 slugging percentage. As a testament to his "rebound" season, this miraculous 1970 Topps #600 Willie Mays "Gem Mint 10" marvel just happens to share the spotlight with three other copies as the "best of the rest" subject on the prestigious PSA "Pop' chart! Remarkably, of the 2,400+ encapsulated examples, only a mere four specimens have managed to achieve this extremely rare cardboard perfection.

The renowned Topps Chewing Gum Company chose a classic Mays batting stance for his #600 1970 subject, with this pristine offering portraying sheer perfection in every conceivable manner. Every attribute substantiates the "10" assessment including immaculate resolution, vibrant hues, sheen surfaces, blistering sharp corner tips, and virtually "dead-on" 50/50 centering that is the typical stigma of any 1970 Topps Mays subject. To reiterate, only three other Mays '70 Topps example has managed to achieve the pinnacle "Gem Mint 10" PSA grade, with this museum worthy masterpiece proudly standing tall as the finest of its kind!
