(LOT 56)
1915 Cracker Jack #61 Ray Schalk (PSA NM-MT 8) – Only 2 Examples Graded Higher!

A superior catcher, Hall of Famer Ray Schalk was never known for his hitting skills with his Cooperstown enshrinement almost solely based on his defensive prowess. Also contributing to his popularity was the fact that he played brilliantly in the "Black Sox" 1919 World Series, forgoing the temptation to join his disgruntled eight teammates in "throwing" the series. His miraculous representation on this 1915 Cracker Jack marvel in a PSA NM-MT 8 holder also merits Cooperstown mention with only ten other examples at this lofty plateau and meager 2 specimens graded higher! The classic batting pose reveals brilliant hues, with the robust red background projecting the world-class image to a nearly 3-D like setting. Snow white borders, razor-sharp corner tips, fine centering and "pack-fresh" surfaces all combine to support the lofty assessment that has only been bested by a mere 2 examples, placing this seemingly pristine-like offering as one of the finest of its kind!
