(LOT 22)
1903 E107 Breisch Williams Lou Criger "Type 1" Blank Back (SGC VG/EX 4) – "1 of 1" & The Highest Graded Example on the COMBINED SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

This magnificent SGC VG/EX 4 E107 Lou Criger "Type 1" blank back indisputably stands tall as the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED example on the COMBINED SGC and PSA "Pop" Charts! Indeed, with ZERO PSA specimens listed on their prestigious "Pop" chart and only four other copies reflected on SGC's likewise illustrious census report, this pinnacle Criger offering knows not peers and proudly resides as the finest of its kind. Although Criger was a weak hitting catcher, his standout defensive skills kept him in the Major Leagues for 16 seasons, eight of which were spent with the Red Sox from 1901 thru 1908. His claim to fame was being Cy Young's catcher for whenever the immortal "Cy" toed the rubber, you could be sure that Criger would be his stoic battery-mate.

His classic Carl Horner portrait image is absolutely breathtaking, to say the least, with its awe-inspiring eye appeal highlighted by un-improvable contrast and clarity. Near-perfect centering only shows a "hint" of favoritism towards the right edge between four bright white borders, and no obtrusive surface flaws are evident on ether side. With the corners portraying a majority of their original square formations (extremely modest even wear), we can only assume that the diminutive soiling situated on the upper left border and some faint toning on the blank back account for the rather harsh technical assessment. Yet, as most enthusiasts would attest to, the "1 of 1" pinnacle technical grade, accompanying brilliant aesthetics, and monumental Breisch Williams E107 pedigree are more than sufficient to place this offering as the most significant Lou Criger baseball card on the planet!
