(LOT 14)
1928 Yuengling's Ice Cream #6 Babe Ruth (PSA EX 5) - "1 of 1" & the HIGHEST GRADED EXAMPLE!

The season after the Yankees stormed to a dominating-like 1927 World Championship, a number of popular ice cream companies in 1928 issued baseball cards with their brand products including Yuengling's, Tharp and Harrington's. As is the case with any 1920's baseball set, the most popular and valuable subject for these highly coveted ice cream subjects is George Herman "Babe" Ruth, and presented here is his breathtaking Yuengling's PSA "EX 5" specimen. Rarely do we have the opportunity to utilize the adjective "breathtaking" for a mid-grade example.

However, considering this marvel stands as the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED PSA copy extant, "breathtaking" just might be an understatement! Nebulous black & white Babe Ruth cards are taking off in desirability and value like an uncontrollable brush fire, with the "Bambino's undisputed title as baseball greatest player ever sparking this staggering inflation. While a myriad of enthusiasts seek his ultra-desirable 1933 Goudey bubble gum cards, they are extremely plentiful. A much more excruciating task is locating his 1920's Caramel and Ice Cream cardboard issues with their availability representing only a fraction of the 1930's bubble gum cards.

Justifying this notion is the total Yuengling's Ruth's (PSA has only encapsulated a meager 10 copies!) representing LESS THAN 1% of the total 1933 Ruth Goudey's. The Bambino's classic black & white pitching pose actually depicts Ruth in his Boston Red uniform and is the exact image utilized on his exalted 1917-1920 Felix Mendelsohn M101-6 subject. Atypically, the illustration exhibits the finest possible contrast and clarity, with the few other existing Yuengling Ruth's portraying poor central image aesthetics.

Excellent centering, relatively clean borders, crease free surfaces and a clean verso all combine to support the technical assessment that falls slightly short of a higher grade due to even corner wear. In closing, synonymous with the "Sultan of Swat's" unparalleled stature as our National Pastime's greatest player ever comes along this finest graded "1 of 1" PSA 5 Yuengling's Ruth that likewise merits a place in any Hall of Fame cardboard gathering!
