(LOT 1031)
1959 Ted Williams Fleer Issue - Two Uncut 6-Card Sheets

Near the end of the 1950's, Ted Williams had already solidified an unbridled place in American history. Substantiating that notion was his arguable status as baseball's greatest all-time hitter as well as his two fighter pilot stints in WWII and the Korean War in which he shot down a total of 16 enemy aircraft. By 1959, approaching his fourth decade as one of our National Pastime's supreme icons, the "Splendid Splinter" was now the highest paid player in the game after signing a whopping $125,000 contract to continue his career with the Boston Red Sox.

To commemorate this immortal slugger's virtually unparalleled accomplishments, the prestigious Fleer baseball card company issued an 80-Subject set with ALL of the cards depicting the one and only Theodore Samuel Williams. One of the more eclectic post-war sets, we are honored to present TWO uncut 6-card "scrapper sheets" that, save some standard border toning and natural corner wear, have managed to retain a majority of their original factory-issued attributes.

The two sheets include the following subjects: SHEET 1 - (25) Ted is Discharged; (27) July 9, 1946 - One Man Show; (29) July 21, 1946 Ted Hits For The Cycle; (42) 1951 Williams Slowed By Injury; (44) Back To The Marines (46) 1952 Ready For Combat; SHEET 2 (34) 1947 Ted Sets Run Scored Record; (36) 1948 Banner Year For Ted; (38) 1949 Power Rampage; (49) 1953 Smash Return; (51) May 16, 1954 Ted Is Patched Up; (53) 1954 Ted's Comeback Is A Success. Both of these obscure sheets portray fine EX+ aesthetics (save the aforementioned toning and corner wear), and have managed to elude any glaring surface flaws. Ted Williams achieved his lifelong dream of walking down the street and have people passing him stating "there goes the greatest hitter that ever lived", and we cannot imagine a finer testament to the immortal "Teddy Ballgame" than this extremely eclectic lot of 2 uncut 6-subject sheets from his classic 1959 Fleer compilation!
