(LOT 709)
1911 T205 Zach Wheat Sweet Caporal (SGC NM+ 7.5) - "1 of 1" - HIGHEST GRADED Copy on the SGC Pop Chart!

This sensational SGC "NM+ 7.5" T205 Zach Wheat offering irrefutably stands as the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED SGC example! Collectors surely realize the painstaking task involved with locating high-grade T205's due to their ultra-condition sensitive gold borders. Amazingly, this Wheat gem has defied "father-time", retaining virtually all of its original pristine-like attributes including a well-positioned portrait image, robust hues, razor sharp edges/corners, a gleaming obverse side surface, atypical clean gold borders and a flawless-like Sweet Caporal verso. Destined for stardom, Wheat's first two plate appearances were against the immortal Christy Mathewson, resulting in a single and a double!

History was in the making as Wheat continued on to a spectacular 19-year career of which 18 of those seasons were spent with the Brooklyn Dodgers with the last season as part of Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's. Wheat compiled a .317 batting average that included 2.884 hits, and an N.L. batting title in 1918, leading the Senior Circuit with a stellar .335 average. He also led the Dodgers to two National league pennants in 1916 and 1920, although he never managed to win a World Series championship. For all of the above reasons, no baseball card could possibly be a greater testament to his beloved status than this breathtaking T205 masterpiece that reigns as the irrefutable SGC "unique for the grade" and pinnacle T205 Wheat marvel!
