(LOT 583)
1911 T205 Mordecai Brown Sweet Caporal (SGC NM/MT 8) - "1 of 1" - HIGHEST GRADED Copy on the SGC Pop Chart!

Among the most condition sensitive baseball cards ever issued are the delicate T205 subjects that include ultra-sensitive gold borders typically portraying serious flaking near the edging. This is why it is an extremely daunting task to assemble a high-end T205 compilation with high-grade examples few and far between. With that in mind, presented here is one of those scant subjects that have stubbornly defied "Father Time", a spectacular SGC NM/MT 8 gem of the legendary HOF twirler Mordecai "Three Fingered" Brown. Synonymous with Brown's all-time stature is the "pop" chart listing this as the SOLE specimen at this stratospheric plateau with NONE graded higher. Indeed, this Mordecai Brown gem proudly stands tall as the "best of the SGC rest"!

Along with Christy Mathewson, Eddie Plank and Rube Waddell, legendary Hall of Famer Mordecai "Three Fingered" Brown was one of the premier "turn of the century" pitchers. Brown achieved his iconic nickname when as a young farm-boy he accidently stuck his hand in a corn shredder, severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger. Fortunately for Brown, his deformed hand eventually seemed to be the primary reason for the movement on his pitches, leading him to 239 career wins and a spectacular 2.06 lifetime E.R.A. that ranks as the 3rd best lifetime figure behind Ed Walsh and Addie Joss.

Synonymous with his premier pitching status during baseball's "dead-ball" era is his astounding portrait pose that literally jumps off the card via its rich hues and fiery red background. Atypically, the gold borders have retained virtually all of their original quality, no surface blemishes are evident, the ultra-sharp right-angled corners could draw blood and the Sweet Caporal ad back and brief Mordecai Brown "bio" are super clean. The finest SGC encapsulated specimen, its world-class assessment and awe-inspiring aesthetics place it as one of the foremost pre-war cards on the planet!
