(LOT 522)
1909 T206 Walter Johnson Portrait Piedmont 350/25 PSA 7 NM

The T206 Walter Johnson "Portrait" tobacco card suffices as one of his most coveted cardboard issues, especially considering that, inexplicably, no major Candy/"E" (except the unpopular E91) or Bread cards were issued for the "Big Train". Presented here is an outstanding PSA 7 T206 Johnson "Portrait" Piedmont marvel that along with his T204 Ramly Johnson issue is widely considered one of his conventional sized rookie cards. Walter Johnson's accomplishments are virtually insurmountable, explaining why most baseball experts nominate him as the greatest pitcher who ever lived. 417 lifetime wins, over 3,500 strikeouts, a lifetime 2.17 ERA, and an incredible 110 shutouts (including a staggering 38 1-0 wins!) certainly substantiate that notion.

Needless to say, the T206 "Portrait" Walter Johnson subject resides as one of the most coveted issues from this iconic set, especially considering that it stands as one of his true rookie cards in the eyes of many advanced collectors. This offering's aesthetics easily support the technical assessment starting with the classic Carl Horner portrait image that presents itself in superb fashion. Set against an angelic yellow hued background, only a handful of other T206 images could possibly equal the virtually unparalleled reverence of this majestic Johnson type card. Right-angled corners, bright white borders, relatively clean surfaces and sharp edging all support the grade, with the only noticeable flaw being the off-centered image's favoritism towards the left edge and a slight printers flaw on the upper left front. No doubt, any sophisticated enthusiast should gladly jump aboard the "Big Train" express by claiming this PSA 7 keepsake for their esteemed T206 gathering!
