(LOT 130)
c.1920's Babe Ruth Type 1 Original Thorne Photo Measures 8" x 10" - Full PSA Type 1 LOA

The laundry list of baseball immortals is headed by the likes of Cobb, Jackson, Wagner, Mathewson, Johnson, Young, Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and so many more, yet for all of their achievements, no player can possibly boast the unparalleled stature of the incomparable George Herman "Babe" Ruth. The 'Bambino's" incredible diamond achievements virtually defied logic, and it is mind boggling to think Ruth would have been a Hall of Fame pitcher had the unflappable southpaw continued his career as a left-handed ace. Ruth's world-class stature has landed him a place above the game itself, and one can only be left scratching their heads when you consider he walloped more home runs than nearly all of the ball clubs in the early 1920's. No wonder sophisticated enthusiasts seek a myriad of his artifacts issued during his playing days, with this outstanding late 1920's Type I Thorne photo portraying the "Sultan of Swat" in one of his classic follow-though swings during what appears to be a spring training event.

Measuring 8" x 10" (oversized for a 1920's photo), you can literally feel Ruth's pre-game intensity as he dons his classic pantaloons, wearing a long sleeve sweatshirt during what we assume to be a Florida based March training session. Breathtaking clarity and contrast "steal the show" for this classic illustration, with the central image eluding any obtrusive blemishes. The verso reveals the critical Thorne credit stamp, the final exclamation point for an image that is ultra-popular with esteemed photo enthusiasts. As hobbyists surely realize, this eventually became the prototype image for the 1940's issued postcard that Ruth abundantly signed for his avid fan base. Iconic to say the least via its Ruth/Thorne partnership, it truly merits a final resting place in any advanced "Sultan of Swat" or photo compilation! Full PSA Type I LOA
