(LOT 34)
1912 T227 Jack Johnson Honest Long Cut (SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5) - SOLE & Highest Graded SGC Honest Long Cut Example!

In 1912, the "Honest Long Cut" and "Miners Extra" tobacco brands included a single card representing one of the era's prominent sports stars. The "Series of Champions" 25 subject checklist included sports personalities from baseball, boxing, billiards, car racing, swimming, wrestling, golf, horse racing, etc. Unquestionably, the most popular and valuable non-baseball subject is Hall of Fame boxer Jack Johnson with his T227 Honest Long Cut presented here in an SGC "VG/EX+ 4.5" holder, the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED SGC example! Nicknamed the "Galveston Giant", Johnson is renowned for being the inaugural African-American Boxing champion, a title he held from 1908 thru 1915.

His 1910 fight against James Jeffries is still considered the arguable "fight of the century", and for a period of time many historians believe Johnson was the most celebrated and notorious African-American on the planet. Synonymous with Johnson's exploits is this pinnacle memento that is nothing short of spectacular via the classic boxing pose, bright orange/red hued setting and excellent centering. Indeed, mid-grade T227 Jack Johnson's are near-impossible to find, justifying why this "unique for the grade" and "finest of its kind" offering merits a final resting place in a grandeur T227 or vintage card gathering!
