(LOT 687)
Scarce September 21, 1927 Illustrated Current News 12-1/2" x 18" Colossal Sized Newspaper Image w/Hoyt, Ruth, Huggins, Meusel & Shawkey

Artifacts from the exalted 1927 New York Yankee season are highly coveted by the collecting community, with the 1927 Yanks led by "Murderers Row" and a stellar pitching staff is arguably considered the greatest team in baseball history! Presented here is an extremely obscure September 21, 1927 newspaper image of Waite Hoyt, Babe Ruth, Miller Huggins, Bob Meusel and Bob Shawkey, taken directly after the Yankees clinched the 1927 American League pennant. Issued by the Illustrated Current News, it measures a colossal 12-1/2" x 18", and save the vertical and horizontal folding lines, has retained a majority of its original aesthetics including a crystal-clear image of these five Yankee legends. A near-impossible image to surface, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how the "Sultan of Swat" paved the way for this remarkable Yankee team to stake a claim as the greatest of them all!
