(LOT 682)
Brilliant 1950 Jackie Robinson Story Movie Poster – Measures Approx. 24" x 26" w/Framed Dimensions of 34" x 36"

Jackie Robinson turned the baseball world upside down by "breaking the color barrier" with his 1947 Major League Brooklyn Dodger's debut. The fortitude and courage portrayed by this remarkable man would change our national Pastime forever, eventually leading to a seemingly infinite number of endorsements for this ultra-brave African American star including the introduction of his iconic 1950 movie dubbed 'The Jackie Robinson Story". This biographical blockbuster hit was directed by Alfred E. Green and starred Jackie Robinson as "himself' in his inaugural movie debut. Other stars included Ruby Dee as Rae Robinson (his wife), Minor Watson as Branch Rickey, Richard Lane as clay Hopper, and Louise Beavers as Jackie's mother.

The movie focuses on the immense racial struggles Jackie faces in lieu of the multitude of bigots he routinely deals with in his daily life. An imposing film to say the least with regard to the real-life depiction of this ultra-courageous man; a number of different style posters were released to promote "The Jackie Robinson Story". Presented here just happens to be one of those magnificent posters, a colossal-sized 24" x 26" original 1950 issued advertisement that portrays a breathtaking sliding image of the immortal Jackie Robinson, affixed to a radiant yellow background. Matted and framed to 34" x 36" dimensions, it includes a beautiful powder blue matt and black frame.

The poster itself shows no obtrusive ill effects from the past 68 years of potential wear and includes the following three captions above Jackie's awe-inspiring central pose: "THE ELECTRICITY – THAT BRINGS A CROWD TO ITS FEET!; THE THRILL – OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST SPORT!; THE DRAMA – OF A MAN WHO FOUGHT THE AMERICAN WAY –". Directly beneath the captivating Jackie pose is a large red banner (that depicts some slight/negligible color fading), and includes the following bold text: "JACKIE ROBINSON -The Pride of Brooklyn" as HIMSELF" in THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY".

As a final exclamation point, the movies other star actors and director Al Green are listed along the bottom edge, and to reiterate no glaring blemishes are evident. While several different versions of the 1950 Jackie Robinson Story posters exist, this offering just happens to be one of the scarcer versions to survive its original 1950 issue date. A steadfast reminder of Robinson's unparalleled embodiment of courage, it would immediately become one of the centerpiece attractions in any esteemed baseball advertisement gathering!
